Elastic band thread, also known as elastic cord or core-spun elastic thread, is a commonly used functional thread in textile processing. It is made with a composite core-spun structure. The thread has an elastic core, commonly made from natural latex, spandex, or TPU elastic yarn, with an outer layer of polyester, nylon, or cotton fibers as a protective layer. This combination of materials maintains elasticity while reducing wear and tear during sewing. Different material combinations result in different performance characteristics; natural latex thread has a soft feel, while synthetic elastic cores are washable and sweat-resistant. The choice can be made according to processing needs, and the outer fiber can also be dyed to match various fabric color requirements.

 

In terms of performance, elastic band thread has controllable stretching and shrinkage capabilities. After moderate stretching and removal of external force, the thread gradually returns to its original length. The rate of elasticity decay after repeated stretching is gradual, making it suitable for sewing areas requiring continuous elastic support. Compared to ordinary non-elastic sewing thread, the stitches it produces can stretch and contract with the fabric, without restricting the movement of clothing. At the same time, the smooth outer fibers are less prone to snagging, making it compatible with most sewing equipment such as flatbed sewing machines, overlock sewing machines, and cable sewing machines. Its stable tension performance reduces thread breakage and skipped stitches during production, lowering the probability of rework and making it suitable for both mass production and handmade garment manufacturing.
